We are finally seeing some warmer weather and with that the course if finally starting to wake up. The rough and fairways are especially taking off. With the addition of our two new rough mowers this year we are able to get all of the rough mowed about 40% faster than last year. This makes our lives a lot easier. An added bonus of the new units is that they stripe the rough up extremely well. It gives the course a much better aesthetic look. Below are a few shots of the course taken after we had mowed everything.
We have a big week planned on the golf course. We are going to spray, topdress and fertilize greens on Monday. We are also going to start in on our fairway verticutting. This process will remove large quantities of thatch and collect it at the same time. It will cause very little disruption of the playing surface but will greatly help keep fairways a lot firmer and drier. We are also going to start spraying rough with our crabgrass pre-emergent herbicide. This will be necessary to get ahead of the crabgrass germination period and hopefully make it non-existent for the season.
