Splashing Color

This past week the crew worked hard to get all our annual flowers in the ground.  Chris kept some designs the same but changed up a few areas as well.  We also took out some boxwood’s from the front doors and the starter area next to one tee and replaced them with knockout roses.  The boxwood’s took a hard hit from the cold winter and didn’t survive.  The roses will be a nice change as they will provide some added color all summer long.

We also aerified tees this past Monday.  It took us nearly 12 hours to complete because we have so much tee space but it was necessary to reduce thatch and get air to the rootzone.  We will be topdressing them aggressively this week.

Lastly, I would like to take the time to wish my assistant Chris Anderson good luck this week.  Chris is volunteering for the Memorial Tournament and he starts today and will work all the way through the final round on Sunday.  It will be a great experience for him to see how a PGA tournament is run and hopefully he will bring back a few things he has learned that we can incorporate into our maintenance program here.
